5 Ways to Overcome Google Chrome which Lags Severely When Opened
Google Chrome is known as a browser that is greedy for memory. It is not surprising that computers with low specifications often experience lag (breaks) when running it.
However in many cases, Chrome also feels laggy on high-spec computers.
At this point, it can be concluded that the lag problem is not limited to the condition of the computer and operating system, but because something is wrong with Google Chrome.
In the following, there are at least 5 ways to deal with Google Chrome, which lags when it is opened.
#1 Turning off hardware acceleration can magically get rid of lag
An editor from CNET, Rick Broida found that by turning off hardware acceleration, Chrome becomes faster and does not experience lag.
1. Click the three vertical dots icon in the upper right corner then select Settings (Settings). You can also access it via the address chrome://settings
2. At the very bottom, click Advanced (Advanced).
3. In the System column, turn off hardware acceleration then Relaunch Google Chrome.
For information, hardware acceleration relies on the GPU to acceleraterendering web page instead of using software. By turning it off, the burden on the hardware becomes less.
#2 Remove unused extensions to free up memory
Chrome extensions actively consume memory capacity (RAM) while the browser is running. It would be wiser if you delete or turn off extensions that you are not currently using.
1. Click the three vertical dots icon on the top right, go to More features (More tools) then select it Extension (Extensions). You can also use shortcuts chrome://extensions/
2. On the extension that you want to remove, click Wipe (Remove).
3. Again click Wipe (Remove) to confirm.
If you still want to use the extension at a later time, you can choose to just disable it by sliding sliders blue to the left.
#3 Close background programs to make the computer lighter
Running background programs often take up high CPU usage and memory. While Chrome itself is counted as a browser that wastes RAM. That way, it’s good to make more space for hardware so that Chrome can run more smoothly.
1. Right click on the Taskbar and select it TaskManager. You can also access it via a shortcut CTRL+SHIFT+ESC.
2. Go to the Processes tab, select the program that takes up a high enough memory quota, then click EndTask.
To make it easier to find heavy programs, click Memory to sort background programs by memory consumption level.
#4 Clean from nasty malware that burdens Chrome
Malware can be secretly installed in browsers, whether it’s in the form of toolbars or extensions. Luckily, Chrome comes with a built-in malware cleaner feature that you can use to get rid of malicious programs.
1. Click the three vertical dots icon in the upper right corner then select Settings (Settings). You can also access it via the address chrome://settings
2. Scroll down then click Advanced (Advanced).
3. Then click Clean the computer (Clean up the computer).
4. Click Discover (Find) to start the process scanning malware.
5. Wait for it to finish, if it is detected, you can immediately delete it.
The malware cleaner feature does not only search for malware that harms Google Chrome, but also the computer as a whole.
#5 Reset Google Chrome if you still feel lag after trying the tips above
The last option is to reset Google Chrome so that the settings return to default. This method will delete cookies, site data, content settings, and themes.
Components like bookmarks, history, saved passwords, extensions and cache will not be deleted even if Google Chrome is reset.
1. Click the three vertical dots icon in the upper right corner then select Settings (Settings). You can also access it via the address chrome://settings
2. Scroll down and click Advanced (Advanced).
3. In the Reset and clean column, click Restores settings to their original defaults (Restore settings to their original defaults).
4. Then click Reset settings (Reset settings) to return Chrome settings to default.
Oh yes, settings search engines, new tabs, and pinned tabs will be returned as before. You can also clear cache if you want Chrome to be faster when starting up.
